Julep’s Party’s Over Glitter Nail Polish Removal Kit Review

Julep has a brand new glitter nail polish removal kit called Party’s Over. Party’s Over replaces Julep’s Clean Slate when it comes to glitter nail polish. Clean Slate consists of presoaked mini pads that can remove both glitter and nonglitter nail polish (albeit glitter takes more effort). Party’s Over has the same idea of presoaked mini  pads but this time you place your finger in foams, which gets the finger nails more soaked (thereby eliminating effort spent).

Here’s how Julep shows how its done:

The concept is very similar to Sephora’s Nail Polish Remover, which you dunk your nails into foam soaked with nail remover. The difference is that you don’t dunk your nails into a bottle, but you use the nail foam caps to place your nails in as the soaked pad does it work. As a result, you only need to buy the kit just once to get the caps, then you buy the “refills” which consists of the presoaked pads a la Clean Slate (before version 2.0)

Recap (or more concise summary):

  • Julep introduces Clean Slate (Version 1.0, discontinued): 10 packets with 10 small remover pads in each
  • Julep introduces Clean Slate (version 2.0 & currently on sale): One large pad instead 10 packets with 10 small remover pads in each
  • Julep now has Party’s Over: to be used on glitter polish instead of Clean Slate. Party’s Over consists of foam caps with Clean Slate pads (Version 1.0, rebranded as Party’s Over Refills).

My Review

The pads are exactly like the Clean Slate pads, so yes they will get the job done. You can read my full Clean Slate review for more in depth look of the actual pads. At $28 for the Kit ($10 for the refills), you are looking at $1.80 per manicure removal for the initial kit ($1 per manicure removal using the refills). If you are a Julep Maven (which entitles you to certain discounts), the maven price for the refills is $8 which comes out to 80 cents per manicure removal (not too bad). Of course is more expensive that just buying plain nail polish remover and using cotton pads, but you are buying convenience and comfort here. You can relax for for 3-5 minutes and let the pads do their work (can’t use iPhone, caps are non-responsive, but you could read on your kindle in the meanwhile). You also don’t have to worry about the dreaded pieces of cotton fuzz stuck between the remaining glitter remains still stuck in your nails. Depending on the glitter, some glitter might remain on your nails, but you won’t have the cotton fuzz stuck. In these instances, you have to take out the caps out of the foam caps and finish the job yourself (this will happen with textured microglitter such as Sephora X’s Black Hole).

This week, you can get Party’s Over Glitter Nail Polish Removal Kitfor only $19.99 (which brings initial kit manicure removal from $1.80 down to $1, same as refills).

For the DIY crowd….

Yes, you can make the foam caps. You will need very thick foam, which you can sometimes find as packaging material for electronics.. You have to cut out a long rectangular (not a square), and you will have to sew the edges until it you create a cap. It has to be foam so that it can absorb the nail polish remover liquid. Alternatively if you can manage to rip out the foam out of the Sephora’s Nail Polish Remover, you can sew it up and do the same. The final result may be messier than Julep’s product though so your results may vary.
