Blue Gradient Eyeliner Tutorial (Coastal Scents 88 Palette)

Gradient Blue Eyeliner Tutorial (Coastal Scents 88 Palette)

This is my version of a gradient blue eyeliner tutorial. For the eyeshadows I used my Coastal Scents 88 eyeshadow palette but you could recreate this look using any eyeshadows that you have as long as they range from light to dark colours to create the gradient effect. (by BittersweetShelby)

Coastal Scents 88 Palette

Coastal Scents 88 palette used to create this eyeshadow look. The colours that will be mentioned in the steps below are shown by the numbers in this photograph. If you do not have these specific colours please use whatever you have in your collection 🙂 All you need is 3 colours of one family that range from light to dark!

Step 1

Apply a blue eyeliner to the top lash line. If you do not have a blue eyeliner you can use a white eyeliner, cream eyeshadow in white or blue, or an eyesahdow primer just to help intensify the colours we are applying on top of it. Do not worry if this line looks messy it will be covered up anyway!

Step 2

Next if you are using the Coastal Scents palette take the eyeshadow marked number 1 in the picture above. If you are not using this palette use your lightest eyeshadow shade and push this into the inner half of your lash line.

Step 3

Next if you are using the Coastal Scents palette take the eyeshadow marked number 2 in the picture above. If you are not using this palette use your medium eyeshadow shade and push this into the middle and outer part of your lash line. Make sure to blend this into the previous colour by taking the brush and moving it back and forth over the spot where the two colours meet.

Step 4

Next if you are using the Coastal Scents palette take the eyeshadow marked number 3 in the picture above. If you are not using this palette use your darkest eyeshadow (not black) and push this into the outer 1/5th of your lash line. You really want to concentrate this colour only one the very end of your lash line and not drag it too close to the middle. Make sure to blend this into the previous colour by taking the brush and moving it back and forth over the spot where the two colours meet.

Step 5

Next take a black eyeshadow and create a small wing on the outer corners of your lash line. This can be as long and thick as you would like it to be, although I made mine pretty thin and short. Again make sure to blend this into the previous colour by taking the brush and moving it back and forth over the spot where the two colours meet. Try not to drag the black too far into the lash line but instead focus this only one the wing of the eyeliner!

Finished Product

This is the finished product! You can finish up the look by curling your lashes and applying your favourite mascara. I also decided to add an inner corner highlight to my eyes to brighten them up a little. It is option to add eyeliner to the waterline or the bottom lashline 🙂

For this gradient blue eyeliner tutorial I used my Coastal Scents 88 Eyeshadow Palette. If you do not own this palette please feel free to use any colours that you have. This tutorial will work for any colour, I just happened to use blue but you could easily do this with greens, purples, browns etc.

You will need 1 light, 1 medium, 1 dark, and 1 black eyeshadow. As long as you have each of these gradients of one particular colour this look is very easy to achieve and can be done with any brand and any colour you would like! It does help to have some sort of coloured eyeliner, cream eyeshadow, or an eyeshadow primer to help make the colours intensify even more.

Some optional steps you could take: Apply a inner corner highlight, Apply eyeliner in the waterline, Apply eyeshadow on the lower lash line, Adding a matte brown colour in the crease, Doing this eyeliner for a very subtle daytime appropriate eyeshadow look.

Another great tip to thicken the lash line is to do the eyeliner as I have shown in the tutorial, but add a very thin black line of liquid eyeliner right up against the lash line. This will help give your eyelashes thickness while still keeping the blue liner visible 🙂 Just make sure to keep the line as thin and as close to the lashes as possible so the blue is still visible after you have applied it.

You could also try tightlining, from the tutorials I’ve seen it can give your lashes thickness and not get in the way of the liner (especially great for people with more hooded lids).

Another great idea is to use colour on the lower lash line with normal black eyeliner/brown eyeliner and natural makeup on your eyelid 🙂 I have seen lots of people do tutorials and pictures showing examples! I love that you can easily switch up this gradient eyeliner to suit any colour you would like to do as long as you have 3 different shades of the same family 🙂
